MBSR - chairs ready for sitting practice

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) – The Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course is an eight week evidence based experiential program that teaches mindfulness and gentle yoga practices with the intent of improving the quality of your life. The course is based on the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program established by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre in 1979. The MBSR program has been researched extensively and shown to be helpful in reducing stress and enhancing well-being.

Research conducted by the University of Massachusetts Medical School has shown that MBSR course participants have developed :

  • An increased ability to relax
  • Reductions in pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with pain that may not go away
  • Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
  • Improved self-esteem
  • An ability to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressful situations

The course is suitable for both the absolute beginner and for those wishing to further explore their meditation practice in an open and supportive environment. Each weekly class runs for two and a half hours and there is a full-day class held on a Sunday between weeks five and six.
